Happy New Year_January 1

A brand new year requires a spectacular beginning. I can’t think of a better way than to start with my one wordthankful. I am choosing Thursday as the day to blog about thankfulnessThankful Thursdays. Has a nice ring don’t you think? Plus I remember, once upon a time, there even was a meme. I miss that meme.

I do believe living thankful, focusing on what I have as opposed to what I don’t, will help me to stop falling into those pesky pits that seem to pop up under my feet when I least expect them, like obstacles in a Mario Bros. game.

So on this first day of January, I will begin with the first 3 gifts of #1000gifts.

1. Rain is falling outside my window. I would normally get up in the morning, read my Bible, read devotions, drink coffee, and head out on bike ride. But today, rain is falling. I can hear it.

2. Hearing the coffee being percolated, or in my case Keurigated. Yes, I just made up a new word. Who knows, maybe it will catch on and I’ll become famous as the girl who made up the word Keurigated? It could happen.

3. The fact I can hear anything at all is a giant reason to give thanks!

See you next Thursday with a list of 21 new gifts for which I am thankful!

December 29

Here we are. The end of another year. It’s been a quiet, contemplative, reflective year. It’s been a tough emotional year. It’s been a restful, peaceful year. It’s been a sacrificial year. It’s been a joyful, fun, traveling year.

As I look forward to 2015, I’m setting a few goals:

  • I want my one word to be thankful. I’ve never done a word for a whole year. Now seems as good a time as any. I sincerely believe being thankful will bring me joy, keep the darkness where it belongs – in the closet. I’m taking my inspiration from Ann Voskamp’s One Thousand Gifts.
  • I want to get back into some form of real life ministry. These last couple of months have been the beginning. I want to carry that through this new year.
  • I want to purposefully read through the Bible again. I fell away from this discipline this last year.

Dear God, It’s the end of another year. Thank you for seeing me through. Thank you for never leaving me or forsaking me. Thank you for my health, my family, my job, my life. Thank you for the new babies in the family. Thank you for Jesus. I want to be all about your business this new year. I want to make your name known. I want to praise you and glorify you. I don’t know how long you have me on this earth God, so I want to make sure my life is all for you. Thank you Jesus! Love, Me

weekly photo challenge: beginning

I think it’s strange to live in a world where the beginning of the year takes place in the middle of the dead season for most of us. Or is it really dead? It looks dead on the surface. But isn’t it really just hibernating, dormant? Living in south Florida, I don’t notice it nearly as much. This makes my mood lighter to be sure. I am grateful for that.

Since it is the beginning of a new year, I’m beginning a new Bible reading plan. This year I will read the Bible in chronological order. I’m excited to see the Story woven together from this new perspective. I’m also planning to be more intentional about encouraging you with scripture because what God has to say is so much more valuable for you than what I have to say alone.
