I am spending a year writing about thankful. It’s my One Word for 2015.

3 Gifts Only Seen Up Close

I think most everybody who visits me here on the blog knows that I live in Florida and most of my people live in Pennsylvania. We talk to each other fairly frequently. But sometimes I just have to go home because some gifts can only be seen up close.

58. Mom had two knee replacements last week. It’s good to be home to see up close how well she’s doing, how quickly she’s recovering. I’m so thankful she’s a tough old broad.

59. My brother’s family has two really cute dogs. They’re labradors. I already know their chocolate lab, Luna. And on this trip, I’ve gotten to meet their yellow lab, Stella. It’s really fun to see these two up close.

60. So geocaching has become a new hobby of sorts. In Florida, I’ve been going out on these adventures alone. I was super excited to come home this week and go geocaching with my niece and nephews. They are 12, 9, and 5. I think geocaching is really a lot of fun. But geocaching with little kids? I’m really glad we got to share this adventure, to see up close the joy of such a seemingly small thing.

I’m spending a year writing about being thankful. It’s my word for 2015. And today is a double dose because yesterday was FMF. So yeah. Thankful.

3 Witnessed Blessings

46. Everyday, I get to do this crazy surgical job. I get to meet people of all ages, races, and cultures. I get to converse with them and hear tiny snippets of their stories. I get to witness their lives when they are hard. What a privilege.

47. To step outside the USA and step into the poorest nations in the world to witness the joy people have. Being rich really has nothing to do with money. It has to do with being loved, respected, cared for.

48. Combine the surgery with the folks in the poorest nations and witness the dignity of the least waiting patiently, sometimes for many years, for God to show up with their healing. And when their healing arrives? Witness the indescribable joy when they look in a mirror. Witness the shock and awe as they realize they can see, really see!

A Gift Bringing Laughter, Prayer, Quiet

49. I’m going home today. To Pennsylvania. To family. To good times. To laughter as we try to spring my mom from rehab that isn’t really rehab because she’s doing so well after her bilateral knee replacements. Hallelujah!

50. I have missions on my mind. All of a sudden. Particularly Haiti. I’ve been there 4 times. I feel her calling out to me again. I keep bumping into her on the world wide web through blogs I follow. I’m exploring options. I’m praying.

51. I’ve been awake since 3:40am, anticipating the alarm that was set for 5am to wake me for my trip home to Pennsylvania today. I love how absolutely still and quiet the world is during the last watch of the night.

Thankful_January 16_[FMF]_Send

We interrupt thankful to bring you Five Minute Friday of which I am thankful, so really it’s not an interruption is it? The word is send.

Once upon a time, I had adventures. I went places. I did things. I shared the love of Christ on an international scale. It was exciting. It was exhausting. It was marvelous.

I find myself wondering. Will I ever have adventures like that again? Am I willing? Is it too late for me? Do I dare to dream a new dream? Go to new places? Would the Lord use me again for something above and beyond?

Like the prophet Isaiah says ~

Isaiah 6:8
Then I heard the Lord’s voice, saying, “Whom can I send? Who will go for us?” So I said, “Here I am. Send me!”

Oh how I hope!
