the Mater project…

Say hello to my little friend Mater. His formal name is Tow Mater. He is from the Disney movie Cars. I found him in a laundromat a couple of weeks ago. No, I did not take him from a child. He was left behind! I made sure nobody was looking for him!

As I’ve written before, I struggle with depression. I have been attending a support group for this problem. The group meets 6 times a year at my church. One of the assignments of the group is to have a hobby or a pet to help take my mind off of me and focus on something else. Well photographing Mater fits that bill nicely. And since I am called to missions, a pet is just not feasible. I can’t take a pet with me. But Mater can be my traveling buddy! So he gets to go with me to Africa! And like the paparazzi, I will photograph him wherever he goes. Heehee! You can follow his adventures on Instagram by following me, michelle 1_20. I’ll also try to let him make an appearance here from time to time, just for giggles.

on the fifth day of Christmas…

Since we last spoke, I had the privilege of meeting and taking care of a WWII veteran who is 91 years wise and survived the storming of Normandy Beach, aka D-day! He was born in 1920, so that would have made him 24 years old. I can’t even wrap my brain around that! Every person in the room became stunned into silence. I held his hand and thanked him for his service. All these years later, a lifetime, and thinking about it brought him to tears. What a war that must have been. All I know is when I saw Saving Private Ryan, it felt so real for me, I bawled my eyes out. To think of the sacrifice those men made so a madman wouldn’t over run the world leaves me almost as speechless as the day I realized what God did for me!

Last night I went to a Christmas concert at my church with my friend Marcy*. I wasn’t going to go. I’m not a huge fan of crowds or concerts. My friend Laurie invited me first and I said I would think about it. After that, Marcy said she wanted to go too. So I reluctantly told God I would go. Boy, I am so glad I went! The show was given by Ocean’s Edge School of Worship. It was amazing! I spent half of the show crying tears of joy for the amazing thing the Lord has done for me, for you, for us all! After the show, I sat with Marcy and marveled at the goodness of God as he leads her into his truth. She’s as excited and on fire for him as I was when I became a new believer! And I get to be here to see it!

Finally, I’ll leave you with photos of all the knitting projects I created this month. I really like knitting. I try not to knit too much though because when I start a project I can’t walk away from it until it’s completed and that can suck up way too much time. So I’m done again for now. 🙂
