It’s amazing what people live through. One minute, you’re driving down the street, minding your own business, the next, you’re car is side swiped by another as it frantically cuts through 5 lanes of traffic for fear of missing an exit.

Trauma Alert. Trauma Alert. Trauma Alert.

Hop on the elevator that takes you down to the emergency room.

The paramedics wheel her in the door. She is 22 years old. Her arm is nearly off because it got pinned between her car and the road. She is essentially broken from head to toe. And she is alive. By the grace of God.

There’s nothing like working in the operating room to get you contemplating the fragility of life. Nothing else brings home just how fleeting life can be.

Do you know how much Jesus loves you? Do you ever stop to ask yourself if you are ready for the crash?

This is day 25 of 31 days of five minute free writes. Be sure to head over to Kate’s blog to participate or read along or both.

  1. saw the title to this one and my first thought is…Oh no…you had another bike incident. Glad your 22 yr old patient survived. DM

    • Oh sorry for the confusion DM! I do seem to be getting more accident prone in my old age. The bike is on sabbatical here in Arizona. It’s not very bike friendly. Too much traffic and I don’t like riding on the sidewalk. I’ve caught the hiking bug. Also a bit treacherous, but fun all the same. 🙂
