I began my college career at the ripe old age of 18. My heart was only halfway in it because my dad had passed away 1.5 years earlier. But I was determined to persevere. I made a promise to be a nurse so a nurse I would be.
Nursing didn’t fully capture me until I took that first course in fundamentals, put my white school uniform and cap on (yes we wore caps in the old days), and met those very first patients who were kind enough to allow a little kid to practice on them.
I loved being able to put a smile on their weary faces.
