I’m so thankful I can incorporate my one word, thankful, into my favorite Friday activity – Five Minute Friday, which I confess takes longer than five minutes for me to compose because I’m a
deep slow thinker, but only takes five minutes to read. That counts, right? This week, the word is yes.
Are you a yes person? I meet them all the time. Yes people. I find them confounding. Why do they say yes all the time? I feel guilty around them. Particularly at work. Can you take this extra call shift? Yes. Can you stay late? Yes.
But look a little more closely at the yes people and you are sure to find many who are so insecure with themselves they are just trying to please everyone. This is not a good thing.
There was a time I could be guilted into saying yes. Back before I knew Jesus. But now? Now I say yes when I want to say yes. I say yes when I’ve been assigned call and the trauma comes through the door and they need the help to stay because the Lord puts us in the right place at the right time and you realize you had such a great night’s sleep because the Lord knew you were going to need to be rested up for this emergency.
There’s freedom when you realize you don’t have to say yes to make people like you. Saying yes because you want to is a good thing.
