When I went to Africa for my survey trip, one of the purposes was to figure out what else I need to do to prepare to be a missionary nurse. God has gifted me with this great nursing ability, but I’ve been narrowed in on surgery for so long I feel like I need to do some brushing up on other specialties. After spending 6 weeks in various medical facilities, I realized the one skill I am truly lacking in is OB. I don’t know nothin’ about birthin’ no babies. Let me tell you, knowing how to birth a baby would be a supremely handy skill in Uganda, seeing how they don’t have nearly enough medical people in their nation.
When I cam home to the USA, I immediately began to look into courses in midwifery, midwife’s assistant training, L+D jobs that offer on the job training. Nothing looked probable for me. All these options are cost or time prohibitive. I’m trying to get back to Africa in a timely fashion. I don’t want to sign up for training in a hospital that requires a 2 year contract as pay back. Midwife school is even longer and more expensive. Going to an assistant training program seemed to be pretty cost effective, but I just forgot about that option.
So here I am. And here is God, who’s plans are infinitely better than mine. What did my awesome, amazing, astounding God do about this dilemma? He got me a job as a teacher in a tiny private school for LPNs training to be RNs. And what class will I be teaching starting in 2 weeks? Yep! That’s right! I will be teaching OB! Not only will I be teaching OB, I’ll be getting the refresher I need AND getting paid for it as well!!! How AMAZING is God?!?! Slow on the uptake? Yep. I just realized it today! God has made a way for what I need to serve him in Uganda!
And as I drove home from school I was humbled. How could I ever let fear take over my thoughts when this AWESOME God is on my side? I want to remember this forever! So I’m writing it down.
GOD IS GOOD!!!

Fantastic news, Micey. It’s amazing how God takes care of details that sometimes seem insurmountable to us. He has done that many times for me.
Blessings,
